Sweden is an excellent choice for the gluten-free traveller. The Swedish Celiac association has some nice general information for visitors, though "fairly easy to travel" is in fact an understatement... One problem for some might be the abundance of foods containing "gluten-free wheat starch". It has less than 200 ppm of gluten, but apparently for some people it does cause symptoms. If you're one of them or if you don't want to take the risk (though it would be a very tasty one!), just watch out to avoid "vetestärkelse". The same applies to pure oats ("ren havre"), though they aren't commonly used in products labelled gluten-free. |
